Great Books/Jr. Great Books is a nationally acclaimed reading activity offered to second through fifth grades. Trained Lee parent volunteers instruct small groups of students during morning sessions to increase the students understanding and enjoyment of great books. National Junior Great Books Foundation—Professionally-developed
and nationally-acclaimed reading enhancement program wherein small groups
of same-grade students gather once a week for 6-8 weeks to discuss
selected age-appropriate short stories. Second and third grade groups meet
during the fall semester of each school year; fourth and fifth grade
groups meet during the spring semester. Groups are comprised of 6-10
students, led by parent volunteers, and meet for 30 minutes directly after
school in the Lee School library. Reading level/aptitude is not relevant;
however, students should enjoy reading and be willing to participate
verbally in a group setting. |
